What is the best way to save money for a tween?
Hi, I earn a fair bit at home, $10 a week plus about $20-$30 Extra for helping out and 20 Quid (Pounds) from my Nana. What is the best sceme for me to save my money and have a little to spend as well?
Do you have a savings account? If not, you should open one. You might also consider opening a money market account. You might earn more interest there than in a regular savings account.
Make a budget for yourself. This would be just the same as what you might do if you had a job and regular bills to pay, but will be just a bit simpler. You can make just two categories: saving & spending money. Decide on an amount that you MUST save every month. If you're getting $50/mo or week, maybe you will choose to save $30 and spend $20/mo or week. You can pick a number that you think is fair. The catch is that you must stick to it. EVERY month, you should deposit the money budgeted for savings. You should try not to make exceptions. If there is something that you really want, you should save your spending money until you have enough to buy it. Do not take money from your savings.
Do a little research about earning interest on your money. You might be surprised how you can earn interest just for having money. The more money you have, the more quickly it grows!
Once you have a little money in your savings account, you might consider opening a CD (certificate of deposit). This could work well for you because you will earn more interest and limit your access to your money so that you aren't tempted to make a withdrawl. Finally, if this money will be used to pay for college, you might want to look into various tax sheltered savings accounts – 529 plans, ESAs.
Can anyone give me some ideas of how to make some extra money when on maternity leave & after that ends?
My baby is due on June 24th & I am very very excited about it but I am also very worried about how we will cope money wise when I go on maternity leave & after that ends as we will not be able to afford childcare & I would like to spend the first few years before my child goes to school at home with them. Part-time work would be fine but then we have a problem with childcare. We are both on low incomes & simply could not afford childcare & have no family living near who could help out. Does anyone know of any work I could do while being with my child also? Any ways to make an extra income? Anything at all? I am so worried about what our financial situation will be like & I really want to be able to contribute financially. Can anyone please help?

Which is the best way to save money on heat?
I used to think it saved money to lower the thermostat when I left the house but a former landlord told me that raises the cost of heating because the heater must then work harder to get to the higher temperature when it's turned back up. My furnace is natural gas so which is the correct way to save money, lowering the thermostat or keeping a constant temperature?
Heat loss is based on temperature differential. Long furnance cycles in general are more efficient than short cycles. For these reasons it is more efficient to turn down thermostat when leaving. An exception is when using a heat pump (cannot perform a large temperature swing, so turns on more expensive backup heat).
Check out an energy star thermostat at the hardware store. It is not one with a fixed temperature, it is one that turns down the temperature automatically when you are away.

How can I save money on my credit cards?
I have some debt and my intrest rates are ridiculous right now. What steps can I take to save some money, without ruining my credit?
You can try applying for a low-interest credit card and transfer the balance to your new credit card, then try to pay it off as soon as you can. Don't transfer balances too often though, cuz that will lower your credit score. It's better to pay them off than moving them around.

good ways to make extra money?
I am planning on moving out of my house and going away to college in the near future. I work a full time job. Mon-Friday from 9am -6pm. I'm saving up as much as I can but I need to find ways to make a little extra money. I was considering trying to sell some of my old stuff that I no longer use. any other ideas?
You could:
1. Tend Bar and make good tips
2. Wait tables
3. Get a roommate (helps with bills and saves you some money)
4. Try bartering. When our son went off to college 7 years ago he had almost no money. So he worked odd jobs and he would hit restaurants close to closing time. He'd ask them how their computer systems were running and if they said lousy he would come back with "give me your left-overs at the end of the night and I will get your systems up and running and will keep them that way. Or he'd try a bakery and in exchange for cleaning the floors and bathrooms they would give him the day's leftovers – like a loaf of bread and cookies, etc.
You know what you're capable of doing. Get creative and figure out what your gifts are and see what you can barter them for.
Good Luck.
