I clip coupons, shop at the discount store, and only buy what we need, but meats and paper products and all this other crap adds up, and even though I scrimp and save and try to be the best home economist that I can be, I still feel like I spend too much money. Am I just cheap, or has food gotten really expensive lately? Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone else ever feel guilty just for buying food and other stuff to live off of? I'm at my wit's end with this!
(I meant to say, "how can I save money at the grocery store?"…sorry)
Food is definitely expensive! Save-a-Lot and Aldi's are good places to go for groceries, though. As for meat, you can sometimes get hot dogs, lunch meat, and vienna sausages for cheap at those stores. They also sometimes sell these huge 10-pound bags of chicken for about $4 at Save-a-Lot…whenever I buy one of those, it lasts me and my fiance at least a week, and the chicken tastes delicious, I think. For paper products it's good to go to the dollar store. Some of the things I do to save money are to wash out old milk jugs and fill them with water and tea to make unsweetened tea, keep the plastic bags that I carry groceries in and use them in the smaller trash cans, and keep most of my meat products in the freezer instead of the refrigerator so that they will last longer. I hope some of this helps…good luck shopping!
